Welcome, Virtual Canadians!

This is a site for citizens of the United States who no longer wish to be identified with that nation state, or who feel that it has abandoned them, or that it even threatens them.

Many talk about fleeing the United States to Canada, but between the hardships of relocation, and the difficulty of obtaining actual Canadian citizenship, that may not be an option for many. There's also the lingering desire to stay and try to do some good in the States. The solution: become a Virtual Canadian. It's an idealist protest, combined with pragmatic reality.

Whether your reason is...

• contempt for George W. Bush (who not only won the presidency, but apparently received the support of the majority of U.S. voters)
• concern about what the increasingly right-wing Senate and House will enact
• dread over the prospect of more activist conservatives being appointed to the judiciary and especially the Supreme Court
• hurt over the enactment of constitutional bans on marriage and/or civil unions for gay couples
• fear that a military draft is coming and that it will conscript you into combat
• or anything else that makes you think of Canada as a better place for you

...this is a place for you to declare your status as a Virtual Canadian.

Register
You can register automatically online, with your name, current city, desired province, and reason for wanting to be a Virtual Canadian. We have registrations from all over of the U.S. (and elsewhere), for every province and territory in Canada (at least those that reach south of the 60th parallel).

Spread the Word
T-shirts, mugs, mousepads, buttons, etc. are available, even for those who'd rather not register themselves on the site. All items are being sold at little or no profit above our vendor's base price. This isn't about making money; it's about making a point. And be sure to tell your friends about the option to become a Virtual Canadian!
